Brief history of the Diesel 800

1990

Mk.1 825D turbo diesel fastback introduced. Fitted with VM Turbo 2.5 ltr. 4 cylinder 118 bhp engine a development of the 2.4ltr engine used in the SD1.

1992

Mk. 2 825 D/SD/SLD launched. All with 5-speed box and ABS (except for 825D) Minor changes to the engine which were mostly to do with the addition of EGR (exhaust gas recirculation). These engines can be easily identified as the oil filler cap was moved from the left to the right hand end of the rocker cover.

1996 March.

Diesel turbo models now fitted with the 121 bhp  power plant.

1999

Production of the 800 series cars discontinued. The Rover 75 was introduced and replaced both the 600 and 800 series cars. The 75 has turned out to be a fantastic car. Build quality is excellent and owners report few problems.

It is size-wise, more a direct replacement for the 600. Now that is a shame because a Rover 101 (800 replacement) would have been some car. Seems like BMW killed off the big Rover because it was potential competition for some of their own models.
