Rover 825SD 800 Coupe 825i SD1 and Land Rover Web Site

According to the Rover manual the following is specified for the KV6 is 10w40oil as specified on this chart:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/william.whittaker1/oils.htm  The manual says 5 litres are needed for the change.

Do yourself a favour and remove the front right wheel to do this job, it is a struggle otherwise.

The oil filter is half-hidden behind a splash shield and some pipes

And the oil drain plug is accessible from behind the wheel position

The above manual illustration show the drain plug as having a recessed square head, on my car and every other KV6 I can remember it is a hexagon, in this case 14mm so an ordinary socket with extension is the tool to use.

Once the old oil is drained the old filter is removed. There is enough room for a filter wrench to undo it once the wheel is off and the inner wing splash plate is removed (3, 10mm bolts). After smearing a little fresh oil on the new filter's sealing ring it is screwed on. I do it up hand tight and then just put another one eight of a turn on with the wrench.

Just goes to prove "The Mirror" can be quite absorbing. Funnels (tun-dish) for pouring in the new oil and for emptying the old oil, can be made by cutting off the top of plastic drinks bottles.

I pour the drained oil into the now empty container. Old engine oil is nasty stuff, dispose of it and the old filter responsibly.
