Starting
or not doing.
The car would not start.
When the ignition key was turned the starter motor did not operate. After checking the usual i.e. battery
terminals were clean and tight etc. I did some more faultfinding and looking in
the engine compartment fuse-box noticed after removing the lid there was an
oblong plastic panel held by two small clips. Underneath are a set of fusible
links held by "torqx" type screws. I found the end one to have failed. Not having a replacement I
temporarily bridged it with a piece of cable. This restored the starter to working order.

KV6 Starter
Trouble with starting sometime the
motor worked ok sometimes would not, a little investigation found the problem.

Here is the push on connector that goes to the
solenoid on top of the starter motor. The connection was loose, the metal was
soft due to heating up because of the arcing, there was also evidence of
some arcing where the cable was crimped, suggesting this was never a very good
joint.

I was able to clean up the spade terminal
using a fibreglass pencil, a thin coating of silicone grease was applied this to
prevent any corrosion.

I got a new connector from the
local car accessory shop, the cable was just long enough to strip back the
insulation to make a new connection after the old terminal was cut off. I
decided to be doubly sure and after crimping the cable I also soldered the
connection.
After connecting up again the
starter has worked perfectly.
